Resvenox^®, or resveratrol is produced naturally by some plants when under attack by pathogens such as bacteria or fungi. Resveratrol is a natural antioxidant found in grapes (primarily the skins), berries, peanuts, pine, knotweed, and other plant materials. Resvenox^® is trans-resveratrol extracted from the roots of Polygonum cuspidatum. The story of Resveratrol is originated from apparent paradoxical epidemiological observation that French people have a relatively low incidence of coronary heart disease (CHD) while having a diet relatively rich in saturated fats. It was postulated that some factors in the French diet (red wine!) or lifestyle lower this risk. Resveratrol potential health effects include: Lifespan (unclear effect in humans, some evidence of benefit in yeast and mice) Cancer (no result in humans, may prevent development of mammary tumors in animal models) Cardio-protection (may stimulate endothelial nitric oxide synthase activity and inhibition of platelet aggregation; little evidence of benefit in those who already have heart disease) Metabolism (some promising evidence in rodents, very little human evidence) Anti-diabetic and neuro-protection have been shown in animal model studies Psychological (has had a antidepressant-like effect in animal models; effect in humans is unclear)
